Suspected Robber Killed, Boy Hospitalized After Foiled Robbery
Police are investigating an early morning robbery that has left one man dead and a 10-year-old fighting for his life. It happened at a westside park off Checkmate Lane at 118th Street.
Officials say the boy's father apparently fired a shot at the alleged robber when he walked to the back of the family's sports utility vehicle.
Police say somehow the boy was hit by a bullet.
The family was waiting in the park to sign their son up for summer camp. The boy is at Shands in critical condition.
The suspect died at the scene.
