Grand jury declines to indict man accused in Beaumont deaths

A 41-year-old Beaumont man who had been held in the shooting deaths of two teenagers is free.

Manuel Garcia was released from a Jefferson County jail yesterday after a grand jury investigating the November shootings declined to return an indictment.

Assistant District Attorney Ramon Rodriguez says he believed the grand jury felt the shooting was in self-defense.

Garcia had been charged by police with capital murder in the deaths of two teens who had been in an argument with his son and who had come to the Garcia home to confront the boy.
